Model NJ

The NJ.  It’s probably the guitar I’ve built the most over the years. When I first started making guitars to sell I only made the SJ that is  based on the late 50’s J45.  I felt however that it was a bit cheeky that I had effectively nicked the body shape so I set out to design a slightly smaller guitar to the SJ that would still have the same versatility.  I pretty much kept the lower bout area the same but restricted the upper bout and made the shoulders even more rounded to reduce the length. All in all, it was a great success, a great all round guitar for the finger picker, flatpicker or strummer. Just pick your  taste in music and off you go.

Model J16 / J17

The J16 and J17 models were developed as the result of owners of the small MJ who had fallen in love with its shape and requested I make larger versions. With its narrow waist, the J16 has the feel of a smaller guitar but gives you a bit more horsepower in the bass, great for the country blues player. The J17 is pretty much a true jumbo although I stopped short of 17 inches for the lower bout at 16 5/8 and kept the body length and depth the same as the J16 to maintain clarity.  This guitar will give you all the bass and volume you would expect from a true jumbo but remains balanced with the higher registers  not being drowned.

Model SJ

The SJ, my personal favorite to play, is based on the late 50’s J45. I owned a 50’s J45 when I was young and regretfully had to part with it in hard times. A truly versatile guitar for Rock, Country, Blues, Folk and any combination of them all. At its best when built with an Adirondack spruce top and mahogany back and sides for that vintage sound.

Model B-Dread

The B-Dread. These large guitars are not as popular as they once were but still are the flat picker’s delight. With the Bethany Guitars dreadnought I pay special attention to the tuning of the top to ensure that it’s not just the big bass that you get but an evenly toned instrument.
